The CCAA thanks Alan Rogan for 17 Years of Service
After 40 years at Lakeland College, and almost 20 serving various roles for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Alan Rogan is retiring.
Rogan's contributions to collegiate athletics at the institutional, conference and national level are extensive and he addressed every discussion and situation with a calm and thoughtful approach.
"Alan's leadership and perspectives around challenging topics were often requested by his colleagues in the CCAA," said CCAA Chief Executive Officer Brandon Stone. "He always listened intently to discussions and reflected with an informed and structured response."
Rogan first joined the CCAA Board in 2008-09 as the representative for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). After four seasons in that role, Rogan took on the position of Vice-President Eligibility for the next five years followed by a tenure as CCAA President from 2018-20.
During his term as President, Rogan led the CCAA through several major developments, including reviewing the association's governance structure, the membership application of the MCAC, and the Association's response and action plan during the global pandemic.
Following his role as President, Rogan served as Vice-President Governance for two seasons and was the final person to hold that position as the Board restructuring initiated during his time as President was enacted. He closed out his time with the Association serving as the ACAC Director on the CCAA Board from 2022-26.
Rogan was also selected as the CCAA’s Athletic Director of the Year in 2017,
In addition to his contributions as a leader within the Association, Rogan also led his programs to national success. In 2013 Lakeland hosted the CCAA Women's Volleyball Championship which kicked off over a decade long run of national success in the sport. The Rustlers earned seven CCAA medals over that span, including a bronze, a silver and five gold. Lakeland also earned a national bronze in women's basketball in 2022 and won the CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship on their home court in 2024.
Rogan joined Lakeland College in 1986 as the equipment room supervisor. He coached the men's volleyball team for 13 years and spent one year at the helm of the women's team. In 2006 he was named Lakeland's athletic director.
“The CCAA relies on individuals across the country that dedicate time and energy to the Association’s endeavours,” said Stone. “The CCAA will forever be grateful for Alan Rogan’s contributions.”
