The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce that St. Thomas University student-athlete Brooklyn Myra has been selected as a recipient of the 2025-26 CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship, presented by FieldTurf. A Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology student and member of the St. Thomas Tommies women’s soccer team, Myra has demonstrated remarkable resilience, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to community service.
Beyond sport, Myra has made an extraordinary impact through her volunteer work with seniors in her home community. Having started at just four years old, she has spent over a decade building meaningful relationships with residents, organizing activities, and bringing joy and companionship to those in long-term care. “I’ve always wanted to be someone younger athletes can look up to,” said Myra. “Through my experiences, especially overcoming injury, I’ve learned that challenges can become opportunities to grow and give back.” After undergoing two ACL surgeries in a two-year span, Myra turned adversity into purpose. Unable to compete, she remained deeply connected to sport by stepping into coaching and mentorship roles, using her experience to inspire and support others facing similar challenges. Her journey has shaped her into a compassionate leader who leads by example and empowers others to persevere. Whether mentoring young athletes, supporting peers in training environments, or brightening the days of seniors in her community, Myra’s commitment to service is rooted in empathy, consistency, and a genuine desire to make a difference. “Brooklyn exemplifies resilience in the face of adversity and leadership through service,” said one of her referees. “She consistently chooses to show up for others with integrity, compassion, and humility.” The CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship, presented by FieldTurf, recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in leadership, community involvement, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact beyond sport.

Myra’s impact spans multiple initiatives, including her work with South Shore United Football Club, Atlantic Sports Performance, and her longstanding volunteer efforts at Rosedale Home for Special Care. As a youth soccer coach, she dedicates her time each week to developing young athletes, teaching fundamental skills, and fostering a love for sport among children aged three to nine. In her role as a student strength and performance coach, she supports athletes in their physical development, guiding them through training sessions and warmups.
