Bertram named CCAA Golf Coach of the Year
Chris Bertram of the University of the Fraser Valley has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Coach of the Year.
The Cascades coach received the award this evening at the 2016 PING CCAA Golf National Championships banquet in Charlottetown, PEI. Bertram, a five-time PACWEST Coach of the Year recipient, has now received the CCAA honour three times (2013, 2014, 2016).
“Both the Men’s and Women’s teams at UFV continued to achieve consistently strong performances in the PACWEST against stiff in-conference competition,” said David Munro, CCAA VP Sport Development.
“The CCAA is fortunate to have talented and dedicated coaches such as Chris and we are extremely pleased to name him CCAA Golf Coach of the Year for the third time in the past four years.”
This season, Bertram guided the Cascades Women’s team to a gold and the Men’s team to silver in the PACWEST. Hannah Dirksen captured individual gold on the women's side, while Connor O’Dell earned individual silver on the men's side.
Bertram’s Women’s team had first-place finishes at the VIU, Douglas, UBCO and UFV Fall Invitationals, while the men’s squad was victorious at the Bandon Dunes, Cardinal Classic and Olympic College invitationals. Both teams also defeated MacEwan University in Match Play action.
In June, the UFV Men’s team placed fourth at the Golf Canada Canadian College/University Golf Championships.
“With coaches like Chris present on our circuit, we know college golf is in good hands,” said Christian Brosseau, CCAA Golf Convenor. “He takes to heart the development of his student-athletes on and off the golf course. He is truly deserving of this honour and an example to follow for all our coaches at the CCAA.”

Lemieux led the Boomerang’s Men’s team to the RSEQ Championship for the fourth season in a row. André-Laurendeau was victorious in two events this season and tied for first place in another. Three players from the Cégep placed in the Top 5 for the individual Order of Merit. Lemieux is also an assistant coach at the University of Montreal |
