Day Two at the CCAA Golf Championships presented by PING
| The 2024 CCAA Golf National Championship, presented by PING, finished its second day at Red Crest Gold Club on Wednesday.
Zach Pageau (Cégep André-Laurendeau) took sole possession of first place, breaking the tie with Fanshawe College’s Luke Evans with a score of 73. Ben Landers (Fanshawe College) sits in second place, totaling four over par, and Michael Valk (Medicine Hat College) is in third at five over par. Overall, the Andre Laurendeau Boomerang leads by nine strokes at +34. Fanshawe College sits in second at +43, followed by the host Humber College at +50. Cégep André-Laurendeau led the field today, scoring a tournament-low 299. One remarkable jump of the day belonged to Raphael Vézina-Ouellet (Cégep André-Laurendeau), who shot seven strokes better than yesterday and rose from 24th to 19th. The day's story, though, was St. Clair College’s Spencer Higginbottom, who shot a field-best 71, two-under par. He currently sits in sixth place after starting the day in 18th. On the women’s side, Jordan Newlands (OCAA 1 Women's) still leads the way. She shot a 77 on Wednesday and is eight-over for the tournament. Susan Chen (OCAA 1 Women's) is two shots behind at +10, and Mackenzie Cloutier (RSEQ 1 Women's) is a shot behind in third. Ella Dolan (ACAC 1 Women's) was the biggest riser of the day, showing resilience after a tough round one, she shot a 76 on Wednesday, pulling her from 11th to a tie for seventh. Overall, it’s the OCAA Women’s team 1 who lead the field with a gross score of +18. RSEQ 1 Women's is in second with a cumulative score of +23 and the ACAC 1 Women's team is in third at +41. Round three will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday. It’s projected to be six degrees in King Ontario on Thursday morning and 15 in the afternoon. There is no chance of precipitation and the wind is projected to be a non-factor at less than 10 km/s. |
