DAY 2 RECAP: Women’s Volleyball Nationals

OSHAWA, Ont. - Day two of the 2025 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship has concluded and the Lakeland Rustlers and Humber Hawks will meet in the championship final on Saturday.

| The Augustana Vikings and Providence Pilots began the day with their bronze quarter-final match, where the Vikings defeated the Pilots in straight sets. Each set was a back-and-forth affair, especially the second set which was decided by a 25-23 score, but Augustana refused to be overcome. Ultimately, they won by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-17.
Hadley Ziemmer was the team leader in points for the Vikings with 14.0, hitting 12 kills, a service ace and blocking one shot, while also recording 10 digs. Taryn Watson had 11 kills of her own, to go along with 11 digs. Phaedra Bruens registered 32 of the teams’ 36 assists on the day. Tyra Peters finished the afternoon with eight kills and 12 digs for the Pilots, along with a service ace and a solo block. Kara Bartel also stood out with six kills, while Serena Algera had five kills and nine digs. Racquel Lussier was named the player of the match for the Vikings after putting up nine digs in the match. The player of the match for the Pilots was Amanda Bergen, who finished the day with 20 assists and 10 digs. |

| In the second of two bronze quarter-final matches, the Durham Lords completed the sweep of the Mount Allison Mounties by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-20.
Elizabeth McFarland earned player of the match honours for the Lords after a nine-kill performance that saw her add nine digs, three service aces and a block to her stat line. Chelsea Oke tied her for the team lead in kills with nine, while the offence flowed through Brooke Young as she finished with 27 assists. Ana McCain was the Mounties’ leader in points with 10.0, also leading her side in digs with 11. Logan Tait helped set up plenty of opportunities to score, finishing with 26 assists. Mya Artibello was the player of the match for the Mounties with seven kills and a .294 hitting percentage. As a result of these two matches, the Pilots and Mounties will meet in the placement match at 3:00 PM on Friday. |

Moving on to the semifinals, the Humber Hawks and VIU Mariners broke the streak of six consecutive three-set matches to begin the championship with a five-set thriller. After Humber took the opening two sets by 25-21 and 25-17 scores, VIU stormed back with 25-12 and 25-18 wins to force a fifth set. The final frame needed extra serves, where the Hawks would finish the job for a 16-14 win. History was made in the match, as the win from the Hawks sent an OCAA team to the championship final for the first time in since the Centennial Colts in 1987. Hannah Manners led the team in kills with 15, also serving two aces to finish the night with a 17.0 point total. Caitlyn Labelle was not far behind with 14 kills on only 26 attempts, finishing the match with a .538 hitting percentage. CCAA player of the year Kennedy Williscroft assisted 48 times on the night. Manners was named the player of the match for Humber. Regan Ingram earned VIU’s player of the match honours with a team-high 18 kills and .581 hitting percentage while blocking three shots. Aimee Skinner stood out for the Mariners, recording 15 kills and 10 digs while Keira Crellin had the most assists of any player in a single match at this championship up to this point with 51. |

In the final match of the night, the Lakeland Rustlers remain perfect in the championship with a three-set win over Élans de Garneau, winning 25-20, 25-18 and 25-10. Lana Matthews was the offensive leader for Lakeland with 10 kills, two service aces and a solo block. Avery Bates also had an impressive showing with nine kills on 20 attempts, while Jenay Varga showed her all-around strength with six kills, three service aces and two blocks. Seanna Trumier earned the player of the match award for Lakeland, leading the Rustlers with 15 digs. On the other side, Maëli Cormier had 13 kills and a .400 hitting percentage to earn herself the player of the match for Garneau. Audrey Bizeau was also a key player with eight kills and six digs. Florence Campeau ended the night with 22 assists, pushing her two-match total to 55 for the week. VIU and Garneau’s losses send them to the bronze semifinals, where the Mariners will play the Durham Lords at 6:00 PM and the Élans will meet the Augustana Vikings at 8:00 PM. Lakeland and Humber will have the day off before a 6:00 PM championship final on Saturday. Lakeland are one win away from the fifth three-peat in CCAA women’s volleyball history, while Humber have their eyes set on winning their first ever national gold in the sport. Historically, Lakeland have won three gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the national level, all since 2013, while Humber have two bronze medals, in 2016 and 2023. Championship Information |
