Red Deer Queens & St Clair Saints earn CCAA Women's Soccer Bronze Medal Berths

Match 11 : VIU Mariners 1 – St. Clair Saints 1* (11-10 pk’s)Penalty kicks were needed to decide the last bronze semi-final at Setters Place on Friday. The St. Clair Saints (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Champions) outlasted the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners (Pacific Western Athletic Association Champions), outscoring the opposition 11-10 in penalty kicks to advance to Saturday’s bronze medal match. The Saints opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Natalie Kersey used her speed up the right side and connected with third-year forward Talia Liburdi who redirected the ball past Mariners fourth-year goalkeeper Kaiden Thorpe. The Mariners pressed in the second half and were rewarded in the 87th minute. Mary Nicholls sent a free kick into the Saints’ box and Hannah Wagner headed the ball past Saints goalkeeper Scotlyn Fick to even the contest 1-1 and send the match to penalty kicks. The two teams traded goals for 10 rounds of penalty kicks. After the Saints made their 11th consecutive goal, VIU hit the crossbar to end the match and their bronze medal aspirations. Kersey, a second-year forward, was honoured as the 4imprint Saints Player of the Game. The St. Clair Saints will challenge the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Saturday, November 8 at 12 pm MST in the bronze medal match. The Élans de Garneau and Aigles d’Ahuntsic will play for national gold on Saturday at 3 pm MST. |

Match 10 : Red Deer Polytechnic Queens 1 – MSVU Mystics 0The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Queens (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Bronze medallists) will play for bronze in front of their home fans at the 2025 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship. In the bronze semi-final, the RDP Queens scored a timely goal in the second half and edged the Mount St. Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics (Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association Champions) 1-0. The Mystics applied most of the pressure in the opening half, but Queens goalkeeper Jessie Stewart made several key saves to keep the match scoreless. In the 68th minute, the RDP Queens jumped ahead 1-0. Yuri Umino, a first-year midfielder from Kobe, Japan, sent a cross into the MSVU box and Sein Furuyama finished the play at the far post. Payton Erick, a third-year defender from Devon, Alberta, was acknowledged as the 4imprint Queens Player of the Game.Lauren Seamone, an Education student from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, was named the 4imprint Mystics Player of the Match. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will face the St. Clair Saints on Saturday, November 8 at 12 pm MST in the bronze medal match. |

Match 9 : Brandon Bobcats 1 - Concordia University Thunder 7The Concordia University Thunder (Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Champions) have placed seventh at the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Soccer National Championship at Setters Place in Red Deer, Alberta. In Friday’s placement match, the Thunder found the back of the net five times in the second half and downed the Brandon Bobcats (Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Champions) 7-1. In the 10th minute, the Bobcats captured a 1-0 lead. A member of the Thunder attempted to send the ball back to goalkeeper Madison Kempster, but the fourth-year student-athlete moved off her line and it found the back of the net. Fifteen minutes later, Concordia University responded. Edmonton’s Vanessa Pietramala controlled the ball 25 yards out and beat Bobcats goalkeeper Josie Black with a well-placed strike on the left side. One minute into the second half, Abigael Burton, a fourth-year forward from Edmonton, raced up the right and beat Black on the near side, lifting the Thunder to a 3-1 edge. In the 50th minute, Burton added her second of the contest, scoring from the right side and propelling Concordia University to a 4-1 lead. Ava Rudyk added goals in the 68th and 71st minutes to give the Thunder a 6-1 lead. Sherlyn Melendez added Concordia’s seventh marker in the 89th minute, solidifying a 7-1 victory and seventh place finish at nationals. Mackenzie Boyes, a midfielder from Brandon, was named the 4imprint Bobcats Player of the Match. With the loss, the Brandon University Bobcats finished eighth at the 2025 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship. |
