The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce that Mahdi Ahmadi of The King’s University Eagles has been named the 2025–26 CCAA Men’s Badminton Player of the Year.
Throughout the 2025–26 campaign, Ahmadi was dominant in Men’s Singles, finishing the ACAC regular season undefeated while capturing first-place finishes at all three ACAC tournaments. In Mixed Doubles, he added two first-place finishes and one second-place result, demonstrating his versatility and consistency across disciplines. Ahmadi’s sustained excellence has been equally evident at the conference level. He was named the ACAC Player of the Year in 2023–24 and 2025–26, following his ACAC Rookie of the Year honours in his debut season. His performance this year helped lead the Eagles to a third-place team standing in the ACAC with 411 points, significantly closing the gap on the conference’s top programmes.
“Mahdi is a shining example of what it means to be a King’s student-athlete,” said Ryan Teliske, Athletics Marketing Coordinator at The King’s University. “His dedication to excellence in both academics and athletics, combined with his leadership and passion for the sport, make him an invaluable member of our community.” Beyond university competition, Ahmadi has been actively involved in growing the sport, serving as a coach at the B-Active Badminton Centre in Edmonton. Ahmadi will look to cap off his remarkable season with another run at national gold at the upcoming CCAA Badminton National Championship. CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA National Championship banquet.
