PING CCAA Golf Nationals heading back to Durham
June 7, 2016 – For an unprecedented fourth time, Canada’s top collegiate golfers will assemble at Durham College for the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships.
Durham’s bid to host the tournament was approved today in Toronto at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association annual general meeting. The National Championships will take place at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club, Oct. 17-20, 2017.
“Durham has proved to be an exceptional host, especially in golf, and I am very excited about what is in store for next year’s event participants,” said Albert Roche, CCAA Golf Convenor. “Durham’s fine reputation coupled with the outstanding venue at Royal Ashburn will pack quite a 1-2 punch for student-athletes coming to the 2017 event.”
Durham hosted successful CCAA Golf Nationals in 2012 as well as in 2001 and 2002.
“We are very proud of the strong reputation we have developed with our Athletic programs provincially and nationally, and we pride ourselves in being a first class and friendly host of major events,” said Ken Babcock, Durham College Athletic Director.
The Royal Ashburn Golf Club opened in 1962 as an 18-hole facility, and has since developed into a world-class facility, ranked among the Top 50 public golf courses in Canada.
“Our CCAA golfers have been treated to exceptional experiences at nationals and Durham will undoubtedly be out to set a new standard,” said Roche.
The 2016 PING CCAA Golf National Championships will be hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Oct. 18-21.
