Mount Saint Vincent University's Victoria Strickland Named CCAA Torchbearer Presented by Hudl

Victoria Strickland, a standout student-athlete at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), has been recognized nationally as one of the 2025 recipients of the CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship Presented by Hudl. This prestigious honour celebrates student-athletes across Canada who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their communities through leadership and service.
Strickland’s leadership began in her role as Community Outreach Chair on the MSVU Varsity Council. Recognizing the growing homelessness crisis and the particular challenges faced by women, she spearheaded a campus-wide initiative during the 2024 holiday season. She coordinated donation drives at varsity home games, engaged student-athletes across all sports, and spread the word through athletics social media channels and peer networks. Her campaign resulted in the collection of a significant volume of personal care items and over $600 in donations. With the help of approximately 35 student-athlete volunteers, she filled and wrapped 58 shoeboxes, which were then delivered to local shelters in time for Christmas. “Being chosen as a CCAA Torchbearer is an incredible honour and means a lot to me,” said Strickland. “With homelessness becoming an increasingly urgent issue in our communities, I’m grateful to have been able to make a small difference. I look forward to working with The Shoebox Project again next year!” The CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship, Presented by Hudl, awards six student-athletes annually with a $1,000 scholarship, recognizing their off-the-field leadership and civic engagement. Launched in 2021, the initiative reflects the evolving partnership between Hudl and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, highlighting the value of sport as a force for social good. Hudl, the Official Video Analysis and Exchange Partner of the CCAA remains committed to supporting student-athletes in all areas of their development, with the Torchbearer Scholarship serving as a testament to the importance of leadership beyond sport. Victoria Strickland’s efforts serve as a powerful reminder of the impact that young leaders can make when they use their platform to uplift others. She embodies the spirit of the Torchbearer: a beacon of hope, compassion, and action. |

A fourth-year varsity basketball player pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology, Strickland was selected for her initiative and dedication to supporting vulnerable women in her community through her involvement with The Shoebox Project for Women. The national charity distributes shoeboxes filled with essential personal care items to women experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
