Sarah Hogue, a dedicated student at Lakeland College, has been recognized with a CCAA Torchbearer Scholarship presented by Hudl, for her exceptional leadership and commitment to empowering young girls through the Girls Beyond Borders initiative. As an education student and a volleyball player, Sarah's passion for personal development and mentorship led her to establish and lead this transformative program. However, it has also been a catalyst for her own growth and transformation. Founded in May 2023, Girls Beyond Borders is a groundbreaking initiative to empower young girls through personal development workshops. Under Sarah's leadership as the acting Executive Director, the program has grown significantly, offering workshops designed to foster engagement and personal growth in young women. Inspired by her own experiences and the desire to inspire the next generation of female leaders, Sarah created Girls Beyond Borders to provide a safe and positive environment for girls to share experiences and develop meaningful relationships. The workshops cover topics such as Confidence and Self-Esteem, Goal Setting, Mindfulness, Leadership, Writing and Journaling, Time Management and Productivity, Communication and Public Speaking, and Volunteering and Community Engagement.
Sarah has always done everything asked of her, and more, in the gym and in the classroom," said Austin Dyer, Lakeland's Women's Volleyball Head Coach. "She is an exemplary student-athlete that has learned how to handle tough situations in a group setting and leads by example by demanding excellence from herself and her teammates." Through Girls Beyond Borders, Sarah aims to create a community where young girls can be their true, authentic selves and are empowered to grow in various ways. The workshops have had a positive impact on young girls in the community. "I am grateful for this acknowledgment and for those who chose to shine a light on my organization and all the good it is doing," said Hogue. "It validates my belief of how important making a positive difference is in the lives of those around us. I will continue to serve my community with even more dedication and passion." Alan Rogan, Director of Athletics at Lakeland College, noted that Sarah may only be receiving this honour for one initiative, but she has been engaged in numerous leadership activities while attending Lakeland College. "I cannot think of a more deserving recipient," said Rogan. "Sarah truly embodies the spirit of this scholarship." Sarah Hogue's dedication to empowering young girls through Girls Beyond Borders exemplifies her commitment to making a difference in her community and beyond. Her leadership and vision have created a platform for young women to thrive and reach their full potential. |
