Women's Soccer: Day 1 Recap

Garneau 8, Holland 1

In the first half, the dominating two-time defending champion Garneu take the lead on a goal by Dominique Fortin in the 10th minute of the game. Cassie Feehan responds by levelling out the score. But the Elans responded with quick goals by Daphné Blouin and a precise shot by Noémie Fortin. Garneau’s well-organized play constantly pushes the opponent back into their territory.

Audrey Genois added a natural hat trick in the second half and Laurie Viel rounded out the scoring for Garneau.

Algonquin 1, GPRC 0 (PK)

In the first half, both teams showed a lot of energy, but could not capitalize. The airtight defensive strategy of the two lineups decelerated the offensive initiatives from either side. Michele Brodeur, the Wolves keeper was unbeatable.

In the second half, there was plenty of intensity in the game, but neither team managed to score during regular time.

Algonquin scored on all five penalty kicks, while Jenna King made a huge save to give the Thunder the victory.

Players of the Game were Melissa Harrison (Algonquin) and Shelby Gitzel (GPRC).

Douglas 2, NAIT 1

Douglas striker Mikayla Hamilton opened the scoring in the 13th minute, giving her team the early lead.

In the 63rd minute of the game, Sonali Dholliwar increased the Royals lead to two, capitalizing on a corner kick from Andrea Perrota. CCAA Player of the Year Kassy Jajczay gave the Ooks some hope with a goal in the 76th minute, but it’s as close as NAIT would get.

Ahuntsic 1, VIU 0

Despite good offensive breakthroughs on either side, neither team could muster any offence in the opening half.

In the second half, multiple subsitutions were made to bring in fresh troops. In the 82nd minute, it was Sara Dussault of the Indiennes who broke through and beat goalkeeper Emily Rowbotham to give the host team the victory.
