UTM to host CCAA Nationals for first time

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is excited to welcome a new host next season. The 2020 CCAA Badminton National Championships will be hosted by the University of Toronto Mississauga.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) institution will host the event in Mississauga, ON, from March 4-7, 2020. All championship matches will take place in UTM’s Recreation, Athletics & Wellness Centre.

“It is exciting to have UTM host the 2020 CCAA Badminton National Championships; to have one of the newest CCAA programs step up and host the championships is outstanding,” said Jordan Richey, CCAA Badminton Convenor. “The Eagles have a strong program that is consistently in the CCAA rankings, and I have no doubt they will put on a first-class event.”

The UTM Eagles officially joined the OCAA in 2014 and continue to develop talented student-athletes each year. UTM recently hosted the 2019 OCAA Badminton Provincial Championships as it continues on the path to becoming a homestead for the Ontario badminton community.

Though new to the OCAA and CCAA, UTM is eager to build on the excellence of its institution in utilizing sport as a platform for engaging talented student-athletes.

“Having hosted both the OCAA West Regional Championships and Provincial Championships, we believe our institution will be able to put forth an event that lives up to the high standards of both the CCAA and University of Toronto,” said Andrea Carter, Assistant Dean, Student Wellness, Support & Success at UTM.

The 2019 CCAA Badminton National Championships will be hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro, NS, from March 6-9.
