The CCAA Women’s Player of the Year, Olivia Lei of Humber, captured her second consecutive CCAA Badminton National Championship in the Women’s Singles competition. Melissa Liew of the hometown Mariners was the silver medalist and Consetoga’s Jessica Murray won a hard fought battle over Mary Smith of Olds for the bronze.
Wenchao Shi of Seneca won the Men’s Singles gold medal in a straight-set win over conference rival Owen Kurvits of Redeemer. VIU’s Graydon Robb found the podium again this year, capturing the bronze medal in two close sets over Sam White of UKC.
Ryan Chow and Adam Dong added to the OCAA’s medal haul with their National Championship victory in Men’s Doubles. Kwantlen’s Jethro Lai & Matthew Downton received silver and NAIT’s Jeffrey Ko & CCAA Men’s Player of the Year Nick Roque took the bronze.
NAIT’s Kai-Li Huang & Seulbi Kim defeated Seneca’s Yan Zhou & Rachel Nham for the Women’s Doubles National Championship. Concordia’s Rachael Smillie & Takeisha Wang held off Langara’s Jacinda Yeung & Michelle Hang in three sets for bronze.
Rosanna Chan & Sam Kim of NAIT added a second National Championship to the ACAC’s total with their victory over Phuthita Nilyok & Jesse Assing of Humber. Alaina Lee & Somath Kong of St. Clair won bronze in a back-and-forth battle with Kwantlen's Willine Kwee & Derek Tutte.
